Glasgow Playwrights Collective

Glasgow Playwrights Collective is a development and workshop group for new writing, founded by Karen Cecilia and inspired by the Actors Studio, New York.

We meet twice a month in central Glasgow. New playwrights, directors and performers are welcome; get in touch to find out more.

Join us in Glasgow on Tuesday 23 June for an evening of new monologues inspired by the recent fire near Glasgow’s Central Station. This event is supported by directors and performers from Break a Leg Academy.

The Treehouse

The Treehouse explores the intersections of Madness with family, grief and the natural world. Jessie and Mac, two adult siblings, reunite after months of distance to build a treehouse in a little patch of forest.

The Treehouse script has been developed alongside a dynamic set concept by designer Kenneth MacLeod. The play features integrated BSL and audio description.

The Treehouse won Best Play by a Woman, Trans or Nonbinary Playwright at the 2026 Adam NZ Play Awards.

The initial development of this play was funded by Creative Scotland’s Open Fund for Individuals. Further development is planned for 2026/27. Click here for more information about this project.

A wide shot of Loch Lomond on an overcast day. There are no leaves on the trees and the stony bottom of the loch is visible through the clear water.

Et alia

Et alia uses the Scottish mythical figure of the kelpie, a shapeshifting water spirit, to engage with monstrosity, science and violence. This one-act play is a queer two-hander set in a biological research laboratory beneath the shadow of ongoing ecological collapse.

Et alia is currently being re-developed for production with support from the Glasgow Playwrights Collective.
